While Jack went ashore, Barbossa stole the Black Pearl from Jack, under circumstances that could only be described as mutiny, and left a dinghy in its place. The only other known guide was the ship's log of the Santiago, which had pages that chronicled every detail of Ponce de León's voyage. The Mao Kun Map served as one of the few guides to the Fountain of Youth, with the map having one of the items needed for the Profane Ritual, the Chalices of Cartagena, and showing the only place where to find a mermaid, Whitecap Bay. Sometime after 1523, the route taken by Ponce de León in the Santiago's journey to the Fountain was depicted on the navigational charts that led to otherworldly realms: the Mao Kun Map. While it was said that Ponce de León died while searching for the Fountain, though there were rumors and legends persisting that the Spanish explorer had discovered it. Ponce de León would have searched for the Fountain of Youth in an expedition to Florida and a mysterious island. The legend was most often associated with 16th-century Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León, who purportedly tried to find it in 1513, during his voyage to the New World. An archaic symbol would at some point be used as the symbol of the Fountain of Youth, in which it would be carved at the cave entrance of the Fountain as well as being written on the few maps and guides that led to the Fountain. Within this sacred chamber, a delicate stream of enchanted water flowed through a natural stone circle at the center of the temple. At some point in its longtime existence, the Fountain of Youth was discovered by humans who built a temple around it. It was widely believed that if anyone were to drink water from the Fountain, their youth would be miraculously restored-thereby granting eternal life. The battle resulted in the Spanish succeeding in their mission to destroy the Fountain and the death of Blackbeard in the hands of Barbossa, who became the new captain of the Queen Anne's Revenge.īefore the Quest Legends of the Fountain įor centuries, the various legends and lore surrounding the Fountain of Youth existed in many cultures, dating back thousands of years. The race to the Fountain of Youth would lead to a jungle trek on a mysterious island the Fountain was located in, where the stalwart missionary named Philip Swift and enigmatic mermaid Syrena were brought together by fate. Many who participated in the journey faced many dangers along the way, whether it was a mutiny against Blackbeard's zombies or battling with beautiful-but-deadly mermaids at Whitecap Bay. Crossing paths with Angelica, the infamous Jack Sparrow was forced aboard the pirate vessel Queen Anne's Revenge, captained by the legendary pirate Blackbeard. King Ferdinand of Spain sent The Spaniard, while King George II of Great Britain sent privateer Hector Barbossa to find the Fountain. The Quest for the Fountain of Youth was a perilous adventure of three parties undertaking a voyage to the fabled Fountain of Youth.
